Gate Automation

An automated gate is pretty much essential for someone who lives in either urban or rural areas. Gone are the days of pushing your gate open and pulling it shut. Snupit can help you to find equipment to automate your gate or get an automated gate installed. If your gate is automatic, it makes it incredibly more convenient to enter and exit your property. You won’t even have to get out the car to open your gate. Better yet, the gates can be programmed in a very customisable manner. For example, if you want the gate to have a sensor that detects a car is driving through, this can be installed. A sensor will prevent the gate from closing when there is a car in the way.

Now that we’re convinced that an automated gate is the way to go. Here is a list of features to consider when you get the gate installed:

1.    Do you want a swinging gate or a sliding gate?

No matter what type of gate we’re working with, it can probably be made into an automated one. A swinging gate opens like a door in a house. Contrastingly a sliding gate opens in a linear fashion. The swinging gate is better for a drive way with more space because the gate needs some designated surface area to be able to open. On the other hand, a sliding gate preserves quite a lot of space.  It’s also important to consider what type of building this gate is being used for. A house could easily have a swinging gate if it’s spacious enough. However, an office building is probably better off with a sliding gate.

2.    What power source do you want for your gate?

There is a multitude of different power sources that an automated gate would be able to use to operate. The power source could be AC power, battery backups, a motor or solar panels. In South Africa, the most common choice is a motor. A motor is a long-lasting power source. However, there is the option to install more than one power source. This will ensure that your gate never runs out of power. If the power sources aren’t consistent your gate could be stuck open or closed. Having more than one power source is a good idea during times when you are experiencing power outages. Solar panels are a viable option if you are aiming to be eco-friendly and reduce your electricity bill. This makes solar panels one of the more economical options.

3.    How safe is your automatic gate?

Automatic gates do come in handy, but you need to make sure that their features allow you to uphold security. If your gate is opened by punching in a particular pin, then make sure you are the only one that knows that pin. In addition to this, it is rarely ever a good idea to have a gate that opens the minute a car drives up to it.  Moreover, if your gate will be monitored by security, make sure that they know how to operate it.
